Profile:
I grew up in Hong Kong and went to the US for university majoring in Political Science. Funnily enough, US undergraduates are usually asked if they are ‘pre-law’ or ‘pre-med’ in the very first week of university – but I totally did not consider law until later in my third year. During lockdown in LA, I had more time to think about my career plan and decided a career in government was not for me. I came across law and realised it aligns closely with my academic interests and skillset. Then, I reached out to many US and UK lawyers to learn about the day-to-day job and the career prospects, and concluded I wanted to become a commercial solicitor. Upon graduation, I moved to London for the GDL and SQE. I applied to various international firms during my postgraduate years and secured my training contract at Clifford Chance during the SQE. Now, I am doing my first seat in General Banking at Clifford Chance!
I believe diversity is important because the client base of law firms is diverse as well. Getting varying perspectives helps the firm understand clients’ needs, which in turn, promotes the success of the firm.
